Blocked Sewer in Potts Point
It was muggy and dry yet again in Potts Point. Tara wiped away a bead of sweat as it rolled down her cheekTara wasn’t a summer person at all, she would rather be rugged up in winter any day rather than sweating away and feeling sticky in the sun.
She looked behind her to see what her 4 year old son, James, was up to. He joined her outside to play in the courtyard. James was usually well behaved but when there was silence, she knew to expect him to be involved in something he didn’t want her to know about. “James, what are you doing?” she called. But she was only met with silence. Tara left her washing and started to head in the direction where she had last seen James. Suddenly she heard the sound of running footsteps coming towards her. Jane then gasped with shock at the sight before her. James was covered in mud! Streaks of brown could be seen across his face and splatters on his clothes. “What on earth happened?” asked Tara. They didn’t have a pool of any kind and James had not been playing with the hose or tap, which was in sight of the washing line.
James looked at the ground sheepishly. “I found a puddle and I was making castles,” he said. “A puddle, what puddle?” asked Tara. It hadn’t rained in weeks so she was very perplexed as to where this mystery puddle had come from. “Show me please.” Tara said. James lead his mother to the side of the terrace and Tara couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw a large puddle of accumulated water in front of her. She ran through possible causes but then remembered that the puddle was in the same spot as the sewer access hole. “Oh no, it must be a blocked sewer.” she said with a groan. I’ll have to call a plumber, she realised.
After getting James cleaned up, she rang her husband Michael and explained the drain blockage. A few minutes later he called her back saying that he had contacted a plumber that works in the Potts Point and Eastern Suburbs area as well as Woolloomooloo, Elizabeth Bay, Kings Cross and Rushcutters Bay. “That’s great, when will the blocked drain plumber be here?” Tara questioned. “In about an hour.” Michael replied.
Tara was amazed that the Potts Point plumber was co-operative and willing enough to work at short notice. An hour later the plumber arrived and studied the blocked sewer. He used a variety of tools to diagnose the problem. It turned out that roots from a tree nearby had damaged the sewer pipe and caused the sewer to block. The plumber provided a quote that she was very pleased with and continued to fix the blocked sewer in record time.
